How to use Year function in excel

Working with Date values is one of the key aspect in any data analysis. Date column is present in almost every dataset. Storing of date value and working with it requires different set of functions and its knowledge. From a given date, their maybe a requirement to find which year does the date corresponds to. Microsoft Excel has Year function to figure out the same. In this article, we will see How to use Year Function in Excel.

John has customer spend data for his company. He is has date of birth corresponding to each person. He is looking forward to find out the year of birth of each of the employee. This article discusses how to find the Year of birth from the given Date.

Find Year in Excel

  • Step 1: The Year function contains only one parameter i.e. the Date value. Below is the syntax that helps in finding the year value from the given date:
                  =YEAR(J5)

Step 3: Copy the cell I5 and paste the formulas to rest of the cells in the column. This will generate updated Year of birth column for whole table.
