Working with Date values is one of the key aspect in any data analysis. Date column is present in almost every dataset. Storing of date value and working with it requires different set of functions and its knowledge. From a given date, their maybe a requirement to find which Day does the date corresponds to. Microsoft Excel has DAY function to figure out the same. In this article, we will see How to use day Function in Excel.

Emma has customer data for her company. She is looking forward to figure out day of birth from the date of birth column. In the new column Day of Birth, Emma is wants to have Day of Birth for each of the Names.

Extract Day from Date in Excel

  • Step 1: To find the Day of the birth from date of birth column, DAY function is helpful. The parameter in Day function is the cell which contains the date. For this example Date of Birth is present in J column, so the syntax is as below:
                  =DAY(J5)

  • Step 2: Copy the cell K5 and paste the formulas to rest of the cells in the column. This will generate updated Day of Birth column for whole table.
