Working with Date values is one of the key aspect in any data analysis. Date column is present in almost every dataset. Storing of date value and working with it requires different set of functions and its knowledge. From a given date, their maybe a requirement to find which week number of the year does the date corresponds to. Microsoft Excel has Weeknum function to figure out the same. In this article, we will see How to use Weeknum Function in Excel.
Emma has customer data for her company. She is looking forward to find out the week number value from the date of birth column. The output column Weeknum should contain the value of the week number in the year of birth.
Week number function in Excel
- Step 1: To find out the value of week number for a specific date, WEEKNUM function is helpful. The function needs the cell which contains the date. Here date of birth is present in column J, so the syntax will be as below:
=WEEKNUM(J5)
- Step 2: Copy the cell K5 and paste the formulas to rest of the cells in the column. This will generate updated Weeknum column for whole table.
